Aloha! My name is Scott and I am from Honolulu,Hawaii.I received my Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Pomona College in 2016,my Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 2018,and am currently pursuing my PhD at MIT.At Pomona College,I also was a linebacker on the varsity football team.
This year,I was selected as one of Forbes 30 under 30 in Science.I also have been awarded the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship,MIT-Lemelson Presidential Fellowship, and MIT Sloan University Centers for Exemplary Mentoring Fellowship, among others.I have three publications including a first-author paper in Nature Materials, one issued and two pending patents, and have presented at 20 international conferences related to materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and machine intelligence.
I believe good mentorship is essential to for a student to reach his or her full potential.I started tutoring high school students when I first began in college, taught Electronics as a college senior at Pomona, and taught Micro and Nano Engineering as a graduate student at MIT.I also currently mentor undergraduates as a graduate resident advisor(GRA)at MIT.Furthermore,I closely mentored three international students and helped them get into their top-choice graduate schools(UC Berkeley,MIT,and University of Michigan).
I look forward to working with students who are excited and determined to further their education and make a positive impact in the world.
